World Class Journalist Announced as 4C's Commencement Speaker
Sir Harold Evans will speak to the graduating class on Thursday.

Sir Harold Evans, editor at large of the news and political commentary magazine, “The Week”, and moderator of its panel discussions with political and economic leaders from around the world is 's Commencement Speaker for 2011. In ceremonies at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis, MA on Thursday, May 26, Sir Harold will take a look at the world that will greet the graduates as they go on to further higher education or directly into the workplace.
Sir Harold is a world-class journalist, editor, and author. At one point in his career, he was the editor of the “Sunday Times” and the “Times of London.” A graduate of Durham University, he has written a number of best selling histories. He followed the late Alistair Cooke in commentaries on America for the BBC. He holds the British Press Awards' Gold Award for Lifetime Achievement of Journalists. In 2001 British journalists voted him the all-time greatest British newspaper editor. He was Knighted in 2004 for his outstanding contribution to journalism and the media.
This year’s Commencement Speaker has a very personal connection to Cape Cod Community College. His son is a graduate of the College’s outstanding vocational training skills program for students with significant learning difficulties, Project Forward. The program has been nationally recognized by the United States Department of Education and The School-to-Work Outreach Project as an exemplary school-to-work model serving students with disabilities since 1988.

Moving to the United States in 1984, he taught at Duke University. He was subsequently appointed editor-in-chief of The Atlantic Monthly Press and became editorial director of US News and World Report. In 1986 he was the founding editor of Conde Nast Traveler, dedicated to "truth in travel".
Evans was appointed president and publisher of Random House trade group from 1990 to 1997 and editorial director and vice chairman of US News and World Report, the New York Daily News, and The Atlantic Monthly from 1997 to January 2000, when he resigned to concentrate on writing.

Harold Evans became an American citizen in 1993. He is married to journalist, magazine editor, columnist, talk show host, author, and co-founder of The Daily Beast, Tina Brown. The couple lives in New York, with their two children.
