Zone 10's Top Guns to be Showcased at Legion All-Star Game

It's never easy picking all-stars in any sport.

Nevermind making the selections from the vast trove of gifted high school-aged baseball players of Massachusetts' District 10 -- for decades now deemed the apex of summer high school baseball in the state.

But this Thursday 60 of the 180 players in District 10 will be showcased at pristine Eldredge Park in Orleans with Brockton Post 35's Dave Seropian as manager of the West All-Stars and Kingston Post 387's Bob Hurley as manager of the East All-Stars.

Hurley will be joined by former Sandwich Post 188 head coach Bob Corradi, athletic director and baseball coach for 42 years at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and former Barnstable Post 206 manager Ted Barnicle, a former first-round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants and Minor League Baseball leader in strikeouts. The staff will also be joined by Kingston Post 387 coach Ryan Gill.

Seropian will be joined by Duxbury Post 223 manager Anthony Lauretto, also the head coach at Newbury College in Boston, Hingham Post 120's Vin Murray and Hawkeye Athletic Club's Rich Cogliano.

The teams will feature a mix of player selections, but largely the West will be represented by top players from Brockton Post 35, Duxbury Post 223, Marshfield Post 88, Hawkeye Athletic Club (East Bridgewater), Rockland Post 147, Hanover Post 149, Hingham Post 120 and Pembroke Post 143.

The East will be represented by Barnstable Post 206, Kingston Post 387, Plymouth Post 40, Middleboro Post 64, Bridgewater Post 203, Whitman Post 22, Wareham Post 220, Sandwich Post 188 amd Orleans Post 308.

Massachusetts State Police Trooper Jamie Collins will sing the National Anthem prior to the opening pitch.

A color guard from the Korean War Veterans Association of Cape Cod will be on hand for pre-game ceremonies.

Former District 10 Commissioner Jack Grandy, who served in that role for 17 years, will be honored for his long service.

Close to 125 college baseball coaches and 40 professional scouts were personally invited to attend the game with many commiting to attend to see some of the area's best high school-aged baseball talent.

The game begins at 7:00 pm with pre-game festivities to start at approximately 6:30 pm. Admission is free and concessions are being provided by the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Compass Moving of South Dennis, the region's premier moving company, stepped up to the plate with a major donation to serve as the game's first-ever corporate sponsor.

The game was organized by Barnstable Post 206 manager and committee chairman Sean Walsh, Marshfield Post 88 General Manager Brian Murphy, Kingston Post 387 General Manager Joe Colby, Orleans Post 308 General Manager Dr. Jay Shackelford and Post 206 treasurer John Hardy. The group was appointed by District 10 Baseball Commissioner Greg Hanley as the District 10 American Legion All-Star Game Committee.

Team rosters will be announced Monday but suffice it to say that undefeated, first place Barnstable Post 206 will be well represented with Alex Pernick, Luke Besse, Mark Brodd, Everett Walsh, Keegan Dellacona, Will Toffey and Dylan Morris all from the town of Barnstable.
