A Pair of Antique Armoires to Dress You Up
One Danish, One Swedish, these are both from the same time period but are very different in design.
A Pair of Antique Armoires - $6,480 (take 25 percent off); $2,695.
owner Jim Kilroy says that even thought the blue and salmon painted piece is dated 1803, it may well be a bit older. Its dimensions are 69” H, 57” W and 18” D.
“The hardware style is indicative of an earlier time,” he said. “It’s definitely the original hardware, so it’s quite possible the piece actually goes back to the 1770s or thereabouts. The cracked panels also suggest it may be 18th century. It’s Danish, can’t remember exactly where I got it… out in the boondocks somewhere.”

Kilroy says the piece is extremely sturdy, is made of oak and “weighs a ton.”
The single-panel armoire is a bit more unusual, although likely from the same period: late 1700s. Its dimensions run 74” H, 35.5” W and 26.5” D.

“It’s an oddball for sure,” Kilroy said, noting he picked it up in Sweden. “Perhaps its greatest feature is that it’s deep enough for hanging, and yet you could still add shelves to the bottom. It’s been lightly treated with linseed oil.”
