Antique and Vintage Elegance on the Cheap... Part 2
Here's the second half of our affordable items showcase from Laura Cousineau's Upstairs Downstairs.
As we mentioned last week, people tend to associate Beacon Hill antique shops with big bucks, but it doesn't have to always be that way.
Laura Cousineau’s features five rooms of merchandise, leaving plenty of room for all price ranges and virtually all tastes. We wanted to give Patch readers a roundup of items that will pack less of a wallop on their wallets and Cousineau obliged with a fun sampling of 14 odds and ends at $135 and under, from elegance to kitsch and just about everything in between. Last week we ran the first seven, and now, here's the second half.
1. Scalloped-Edge Mahogany Table, $110 – “This came form a Boston-area estate sale,” Cousineau says. “It's the perfect size for apartment living.”

2. 1920's Perfume Bottle, $45 – “The atomizer really makes this elegant. From a lady on the Hill."
3. Hand Painted Lamps, $125/ea. – “These are newer, vintage-inspired pieces done by someone that's worked with the store for over 20 years."

4. Teapot & Cup, $45 – "Again, vintage-inspired. These are from the Paper Windows pottery group."
5. Depression Glass, $10-$75 – "These are from everywhere - any time I see this stuff I just grab it since we can sell it affordably and it's casual enough for any home, whether on display or regularly used. The petit mugs are $10 ea, the parfait/wine pieces are anywhere from $15 to $25 a stem and the etched cake plates run $75."
6. Shieldback Chair, $135 – "I can't keep these in the store; young women seem to love the retro-revivial feel of them and they can really dress up a room. This is an English antique and has the original fabric."
7. Votivo Candles, $25 – “I hesitated whether or not to carry these, but they sell very well. They're well-scented and go nicely with the affordable pieces we've showcased since they're another example of how a small, affordable piece can transform the feel of a room." Available in: Tuscan Olive, Rush of Rose, Morning Violet, Red Currant and more.
