Barack Obama Endorses 6 MA Democrats

The former president threw his weight behind a few candidates heading into the midterms next month.

Barack Obama threw his weight behind six Massachusetts Democrats ahead of November's midterm elections. The former president announced Monday he was endorsing 260 politicians around country in addition to the 80 he previously backed in April.

Obama's most noteworthy Massachusetts endorsement has the least resistance at the polls. Ayanna Pressley, who scored a historic victory over Michael Capuano in the state primary for the 7th Congressional District, has no Republican challenger next month. She is poised to become Massachusetts' first black congresswoman.

Obama also endorsed Jay Gonzalez, who, according to polls, faces an uphill battle in dethroning popular Republican Gov. Charlie Baker. Quentin Palfrey, who is running for lieutenant governor, also received the Obama nod.
