Boston Mayoral Election Results 2017: Walsh Wins
Mayor Marty Walsh defeats City Councilor Tito Jackson in a race that has lacked energy. There are also city council seats on the line.
BOSTON, MA — Marty Walsh has won his second term as Boston's mayor. Walsh defeated City Councillor Tito Jackson in a race that was lamented for lacking energy and had an expectedly low voter turnout. Patch will update this story throughout the night.
Walsh has presided over an economic boost in Boston, a time in which the city lured General Electric's headquarters from Connecticut. Jackson, who was vying to become the city's first black mayor, was running on the platform that not everyone was sharing in the wealth.
Polling numbers painted a bleak picture for Jackson heading into the election. With nearly 60 percent precincts reporting late Tuesday night, Walsh had nearly 70 percent of the vote.
