Charles Street Is on a Hiring Spree
Several businesses on the street have recently hired or are looking for part-time employees.

All along Charles Street there is proof that work has become more available on Beacon Hill. As of Friday afternoon, five businesses had posted “helped wanted” signs on their façade. In addition, at least two others hired new employees in July and August.
Most boutiques and cafes in the neighborhood’s central business district, however, are seeking not full-time, but instead part-time and weekend workers, managers and employees said.
Massachusetts’ unemployment rate as of August was 7.4 percent, lower than the country’s 9.1 percent. But adding the number of part-time employees raises the state’s percentage of under-employed people to 15.9 percent, according to a Sept. 26 report by The Boston Globe.

Two employees at Black Ink said the gift shop recently hired two part-time employees and is still looking for more.
“We’re like really hiring right now,” said one of the young women. Both had been working at the store for about a year and said that a few employees recently moved away or resigned to take different jobs.

But they said they’re hiring additional staff for the holidays now so that the managers can prepare them in time for the rush.
Across the street, Lisa Giberto, the owner of Patti Bros. Lighting, is looking for a part-time employee so that she can open the store seven days a week.
Notably, Gilberto said that she was only advertising the position through the sign in the window and would wait for the right person to walk by and apply for it.
