Dexter Kennedy in Oct 23 recital for Old West Organ Society
Acclaimed young organist Dexter Kennedy presents the opening recital in OWOS' International Artist Series.

Old West Organ Society presents a solo recital by acclaimed young organist Dexter Kennedy on Friday, October 23 at 8 PM at Old West Church, 131 Cambridge Street in Boston. As the winner of the Grand Prix d’Interprétation at the 24th Concours International d’Orgue de Chartres, Dexter Kennedy has established himself internationally as a leading organist of his generation. Praised for his “prodigious technique and grand style musicality” in The American Organist, his concert performances are fiery, spontaneous, and historically informed, exciting both music connoisseurs as well as people who have never experienced the organ in concert setting.
Kennedy’s program on Old West’s magnificent C.B. Fisk Organ includes
- Buxtehude: “Toccata in d minor, BuxWV 155
- Bach: “Concerto in d minor after Vivaldi”, BWV 596; “An Wasserfluessen Babylon”, BWV 653; and “Prelude & Fugue in e minor” (The Wedge), BWV 548
- Heiller: “In Festo Corporis Christi”
as well as works by Gaston Litaize, Dame Ethel Smyth, and August Gottfried Ritter.

Dexter Kennedy has performed at several celebrated venues across the United States including Washington National Cathedral; St. Thomas Church 5th Avenue, New York City; Severance Hall, Cleveland; The Cathedral of St. Joseph, Columbus; Myers Park Methodist Church, Charlotte, North Carolina; The Community Church of Vero Beach, Florida; and the University of Calgary. Kennedy’s first European tour in the summer of 2015 included performances at the Hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik; the Aosta Valley Organ Festival, Italy; Basilique St. Nazaire, Carcassone, France; Narbonne Cathedral, France; Chiesa Santa Maria Assunta, Bibione, Italy; and the Willibrodus Basilika, Echternach, Luxembourg. He joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra for two concerts at Tanglewood with maestros Bramwell Tovey and Ludovic Morlot.
Dexter Kennedy is recently returned from a September recital tour which took him to Spain, England, Sweden and Slovakia. In addition to concertizing, Kennedy currently serves on the music faculty of the College of Wooster as Instructor of Organ and Harpsichord.
