FREYA! A documentary film recalling the life of anti-Nazi activist Freya von Moltke

FREYA! tells the story of Freya von Moltke (1911–2010), co-founder with her husband Helmuth James von Moltke (1907–1945) of the Kreisau Circle, a group of German politicians, military officers, educators, and businessmen who opposed Hitler’s regime on democratic and humanitarian grounds. Based on von Moltke’s last English-language interview in 2002 with filmmaker and Boston College German Studies Professor Freudenburg, the 45-minute documentary takes viewers through the Weimar Republic and Second World War; the von Moltkes’ decision to resist Hitler; Helmuth’s arrest, imprisonment, and trial; and Freya’s postwar life and activism in shaping contemporary understanding of the German Resistance.

Fine Arts Department Chair John Michalczyk and Freudenburg introduce the film. The director answers questions following the screening.
