Nichols House Museum Etiquette Lessons: ABCs of Etiquette

"I can’t cut my meat!" “I don’t know what to say!” “Do I have to shake hands?” Life brings its share of awkward moments for children. The ABCs of Etiquette leverages role-play, colorful graphics, games, and historical trivia to teach children life skills that develop a child’s innate qualities (respect, kindness, helpfulness, etc.) and boost confidence. Children can be comfortable and gracious dining at any table, making an introduction, and conversing with ease.

Session 1: topics include introducing ourselves and others (posture, eye contact, the handshake, how to introduce others; responding, titles, etc.); and basic dining skills (when to be seated/start eating, the table setting, napkin handling, holding silverware, cutting technique, etc.)

Session 2: topics include advanced dining skills (review of basics, plus American vs. Continental eating styles, etc., restaurants/buffets; receiving-line etiquette, eating difficult foods, host/guest duties; and initiating/maintaining polite conversation.

Parents are welcome to stay and watch the fun.
