Organist Paul Murray opens Summer Series at Old West Church

Organist Paul Murray presents the opening recital in this summer's free Tuesday evening series at Old West Church.  His program will include works by J.S. Bach, Francois Couperin, Felix Mendelssohn, Charles-Marie Widor and McNeil Robinson.

A native of Dorchester, Paul Murray is the Director of Music and Organist at the Church of the Holy Family, the United Nations Parish, in New York City, a position he has held since December 2002.  At Holy Family, he directs the parish’s professional choir and plays the church’s renowned five manual organ.

A member of the American Guild of Organists, Mr. Murray has served the Guild in a number of capacities, including Sub-Dean of the New York City Chapter and director of a Pipe Organ Encounter for advanced high school students, held in New York City in July 2010.

In recognition of his contributions to organ performance and sacred music, Mr. Murray received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School at Saint Paul’s Church, Cambridge and, in September 2009, he was invested as a Knight in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.  His teachers include Leo Abbott, John Dunn, and McNeil Robinson.  He presently studies with Stephen Tharp.
