Police: Bowdoin Street Apartments Broken Into With Bolt Cutters

Police news from Beacon Hill, March 15-18.

At 7:30 a.m. on Saturday police responded to 41 Bowdoin St. for a report of breaking and entering in the nighttime by force. Police reports state that the iron bars covering the windows to two apartments were cut open by a pair of bolt cutters, which were left at the scene. One apartment had been ransacked but it is not known if anything was stolen.

  • At 6 p.m. police responded to 138 Charles St. for a report of a larceny from a vehicle, $200 or more.
  • At 7 p.m. police responded to 89 Charles St. for a report of a motor vehicle leaving the scene of an accent that resulted in property damage.
  • At 11 p.m. police responded to 71 Charles St. for a report of a fire. According to police reports, a stock pot left on a lit burner overnight at The Hungry I caused a smoke alarm to go off. Firefighters forced entry into the kitchen through an adjacent apartment. There was no damage to the restaurant or building.

  • At 11:45 p.m. police responded to 191 Cambridge St. for a report of a motor vehicle leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in property damage.

  • At 5:09 p.m. police responded to Charles Street for a report of a larceny from a vehicle, $200 or more.
  • At 5:20 p.m. police responded to 1 Cambridge St. for a report of possession of a class A drug (heroin).

Sunday, March 18

  • At 5:33 a.m. police responded to the Liberty Hotel, at 215 Charles St. for a report of assault and battery requiring medical attention. Police met the victim in her hotel room and she described being punched and kicked. She went to to Mass General for evaluation of her injuries. Police put out a notice for the suspect, who state police later found walking along Interstate 93. The suspect, Richard John Vaught, of Dover, N.H., was arrested on a charge of assault and battery.
  • At 3 p.m. police responded to 100 Cambridge St. for a report of threats to do bodily harm.
