S+H Construction Honored by the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston at the 2014 PRISM Awards

The company received a Silver award in the "Best Commercial Project" category, and a Gold award in the "Best Land Planning" category

S+H Construction, one of the greater Boston area’s premier residential renovation and custom home building companies, is pleased to be the recipient of two 2014 PRISM Awards: A Silver award in the “Best Commercial Project” category, and a Gold award in the “Best Land Planning” category.

Presented by the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston, the PRISM (Prestigious Results in Sales and Marketing) Awards recognize the accomplishments of professionals who influence the present and shape the future of building and design. The largest industry competition in this region recognizes achievements in building and design and is open to builders, developers, project owners, architects, land planners, marketing/advertising firms, interior design firms, remodelers, and other professionals in the home building industry. Susan Wornick, former WCVB-TV anchor, hosted the 2014 Awards Gala held October 9th at the Boston Park Plaza. The event celebrated the winners while also raising funds for the Be Like Brit Foundation named for the late Britney Gengel, who died in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Daughter of Len and Cherylann Gengel, longtime BRAGB members, the foundation supports an orphanage in Haiti built in honor of Brittany.

S+H Construction’s remodeling work on an office space for a building originally built in the 1800’s received the award in the “Best Commercial Project” category. Working alongside Hickox Williams Architects, the project involved repairing the leaking HVAC system and polluted duct work, gutting the space but leaving the classic arches, granite and various original bricks. S+H built seven rooms, including offices, a kitchen and conference room enclosed by three glass panels. The result was a striking office space with modern features that embrace its unique historical features.

The winning project in the “Best Land Planning” category involved renovating the home’s oceanfront exterior, working on site work, railings and landscaping. Working with landscape architect Michael Weishan on this site, S+H Construction also built an underground garden storage room with the roof as a sub-surface for the main terrace allowing for additional plantings. The finished project includes cast stone and travertine staircases, new walkways and terraces creating an outdoor space reminiscent of the French coastline.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston,” states Doug Hanna, president, S+H Construction. “There were many challenges to overcome in both of these projects, but through collaborating closely on solutions, our team was able to provide stunning results.”
