• Community Connection: Bedford Community Emergency Response Team (thebedfordcitizen.org) — Bedford's Community Emergency Response Team is looking for local volunteers to help with emergency preparedness, shelter operations, and support at town events like Pole Capping and the Bedford Biergarten. The all-volunteer group offers training in first aid, CPR, and disaster readiness, and even created a preparedness guidebook with town departments. Residents can get involved by submitting a simple application and confidentiality form.
   

• PTSD, Health-Related Social Needs Together Increase Cognitive Risks Significantly in Veterans (usmedicine.com) — Researchers at the VA Bedford Healthcare System found that veterans with both PTSD and significant social challenges such as housing or financial instability face sharply higher risks of mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Using records from 3.8 million veterans nationwide, the team showed that PTSD and health-related social needs each raise risk on their own, but together create the greatest concern for long-term brain health.
