Bedford's Hanscom Field Receives $1M Grant For Repairs

The funds will be used, in part, to reconstruct the taxiway lighting.

BEDFORD, MA — The Bedford Hanscom Field was one of 439 airports across the country to receive a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. Hanscom was awarded $1 million for repairs to the infrastructure.

Hanscom is a full-service general aviation airport. It is managed as a regional aviation facility, with major users including a mix of corporate aviation, private pilots, flight schools, commuter and commercial air services, as well as some charters and light cargo.

The FAA grant will be dedicated to reconstructing the taxiway lighting and rehabilitating the apron.

The combined AIP and Supplemental Discretionary grants will fund a wide variety of projects. Some of these projects are purchasing aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment, constructing runways and taxiways, repairing runways and taxiways, installing aircraft lighting and signage, conducting airport master plan studies, and installing airport perimeter fencing.

“The 439 grants will ensure that airport sponsors can make the necessary improvements so their airports can operate in a safe and efficient manner for years to come,” said FAA Administrator Stephen M. Dickson.
