What You Need to Know About Bedford Day

Bedford Day offers various entertainment, including a parade, a fair, health screenings, a book sale, an art exhibit, food and more.

Bedford Day is an annual event that offers various town activities throughout the entire day on Saturday, Sept. 20.

The event gives an opportunity for nonprofits to raise money, but it’s also about locals catching up with friends, said Amy Hamilton, director of recreation for Bedford’s Recreation Department.

“It’s a great day for Bedford to celebrate itself,” she said.

Bedford Day will also offer a fair in the Town Hall Parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The fair will provide more than 100 vendors, including food vendors, nonprofits, local clubs and organizations.

For entertainment, Kamate Fitness and Callahan’s Karate Studio will perform demonstrations.

Bedford Day also offers various activities including a library book sale, a mini golf course and an art exhibit by the Arts and Crafts Society in the Town Center building.

To help alleviate traffic, free parking is available for anyone who rides their bike to the event.

The fair will also offer free flu shots and health screenings by the Bedford Board of Health from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the white tent next to the side entrance of Town Hall.

Flu shots are available for residents 8 years and older. Bring a completed registration form and an insurance card to the tent.

The health screenings will give blood pressure screenings and blood testing for cholesterol levels and thyroid function. Participants need to avoid food or drink, except water, for 12 hours prior to the lipid cholesterol screening.

A town road race takes place on Bedford Day as well. The Danny Oates Memorial 5k kicks off at 8:30 a.m. on 99 McMahon Road.

The race is dedicated to the memory Danny Oates, a 4-year-old who passed away in 1991 in a drowning accident.

All race proceeds go to the Danny Oates Scholarship Fund. Last year, the fund gave out $15,000 in scholarships, according to the event website.
