📰 News we're reading

• Town to Appeal State Ruling on Belmont Country Club Abatement (belmontvoice.org) — Belmont's Board of Assessors is appealing a state ruling that granted Belmont Country Club a large property tax abatement, potentially shifting hundreds of thousands of dollars in burden onto other taxpayers. Officials argue the decision is legally and economically flawed and say a trial could come next year, while additional appeals by the club for later years are already pending.

The Marauders' return to the rankings reflects a strong start to the season and puts extra spotlight on upcoming Middlesex League matchups, including fellow ranked side Lexington at No. 20.

• Local Author Delves Into Genocide, Identity in Debut Novel (belmontvoice.org) — A Somerville author with close ties to Belmont's Armenian community has released a new novel exploring the Armenian Genocide through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy. Her work, shaped partly by the Belmont-based National Association for Armenian Studies and Research, aims to educate younger readers and honor the resilience of families who later settled in Belmont, Watertown, and Cambridge.
