Mount Auburn Hospital Names Dr. Edwin Huang as New Chair of OBGYN

Mount Auburn Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Edwin C. Huang, MD, as the hospital’s new Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Huang comes to Mount Auburn from Massachusetts General Hospital, where he most recently served as Division Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. He began his new role on January 2nd following the retirement of Dr. Charles Kawada.

Dr. Huang graduated cum laude from Duke University in 1989 and went on to receive his Medical Degree at Tufts University School of Medicine in 1993. After completing his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Huang went on to join the faculty at Tufts where he received numerous teaching awards.

In 2000 he joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Massachusetts General Hospital. In recognition of his commitment to teaching, clinical excellence, and strong leadership skills, Dr. Huang was recently appointed Division Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology and promoted to Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School. In his tenure at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Huang received the APGO/CREOG Excellence in Teaching Award in 2003 and again in 2007, and was nominated several times for the McGovern Award for Clinical Excellence.  Dr. Huang has been voted “Best Doctors in America” three consecutive years and awarded the coveted “Partners in Excellence” Award by Partners Health Care for Clinical Excellence.

In 2001 he was appointed Associate Director of the integrated Brigham and Women's/Massachusetts General Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. In this role Dr. Huang was responsible for the curriculum, training and mentoring of the 40 residents in this program.  Identified by Massachusetts General Hospital as one of its long-term, future leaders, Dr. Huang was selected in 2009 for the Physician Leadership Development Program, a 2-year certification program covering the full range of leadership and management issues.  Committed to improving the patient experience and quality assurance, Dr. Huang has chaired and participated in several committees dedicated to those issues.  His clinical areas of expertise include office based gynecologic procedures and minimally invasive surgery.
