Appraising Belmont's Antiques

Stuart Whitehurst, a vice president of Skinner, Inc. but better known for his 15 years as a guest appraiser on PBS's "Antiques Roadshow" stopped at Belmont Public Library, May 4, to take a look at family treasures and give a history lesson to 50 people who attended the event.

Particularly unstuffy, Whitehurst did not discover any hidden gold mine for the attendees, but left them with a great deal of knowledge on what is the difference between a rug and a carpet, why old doesn't equate to being valuable and buying antiques because you love them.
