Art Opening - Zoe McCarthy HIVE

The Landau Gallery is pleased to present HIVE, a premiere solo exhibition of new work by artist Zoe McCarthy, now working in Somerville, MA. Please join us on Wednesday May 14th, from 5:30-8:30pm, for the exhibition opening and to meet the artist. In this exhibition, Zoe presents the best of a large collection of paintings and drawings made this winter: Dramatic interpretations of infrastructure, from micro to macro, reminiscent of cells, maps and networks. Scale and prespective are maniuplated to beautiful and sometimes uneasy effect. “They make me wonder if I’ve gotten lost in a meteor field, or abandoned in a landscape where there’s always some gigantic soundtrack playing” says Somerville arts maven and speaker Jesa Damora, “but with titles like ‘Figment Of Your Gravitation’ and ‘Opposites refract’, they’re also playful”.“We are delighted to have Zoe McCarthy, a local contemporary artist showing her HIVE series...” says Suzanne Kaplan, Gallery Director. She adds  “Landau Gallery is a teaching gallery for our students and faculty alike”.McCarthy’s work is created with time-consuming technique and precision, yet fluid, thoughtful of drama, and rich with color. She explores the human desire to create, explore, wonder and destroy. She says, “these works are a venture into vizualizing the fabric of our existence.”  a client says “It feels a little dangerous and unknowable, like a night-time ocean, but also kinetic and joyful.”Zoe McCarthy, who also has an Open Studio on May 3rd-4th, is an emerging artist operating from the Vernon Street Artists building in Somerville, Massachusetts. Originally from Lincoln, England, Zoe has exhibited locally and her paintings and drawings are in collections in the United States, Europe and Japan. You can see Zoe at Vernon Street Open Studios May 3rd-4th 2014.
