Artists Open Their Studios

The First Watertown Belmont Open Studios is showcase of local talent

Nan Rogers, Belmont artist and, for the past five years the gallery administrator for the Belmont Gallery of Art, said a few years ago several people asked why Belmont and neighboring Watertown had not considered holding an Open Studios for local artists.

"I thought, 'Why aren't we'," said Rogers. And less than two years later, Rogers was holding a reception in the gallery, located on the third floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall complex, for the public and art lovers to the first Watertown Belmont Open Studios.

Held with the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown, the Open Studios open the door for the public to artists who not only live near them but who produce art in their neighborhoods.

"This is going to turn out to be a great event," said Rogers.

The works of the artists at the reception will stay up at the gallery until April 30.
