Belmont Light celebrates Public Power Week during the week of October 2nd through October 8th
Belmont Light will join more than 2,000 other locally-owned utilities celebrating Public Power Week during the week of October 2nd through October 8th.
Sponsored by the American Public Power Association (APPA), Public Power Week celebrates the benefits of hometown, community-owned electric utilities like Belmont Light. This year marks the 30th annual Public Power Week celebration.
“As a public power utility, Belmont Light has been able to offer its customers programs and opportunities not available to customers of privately owned utilities,” Belmont Light General Manager Jim Palmer said. “Although these benefits are available year-round, we use Public Power Week to remind our customers of our services as a locally-owned and controlled electric utility.”

“As a municipal utility, we have one job, and that is to provide power to Belmont at reasonable rates that benefit all customers,” he added. “We can do this because, unlike private utilities, we don't have shareholders. We can charge not-for-profit rates and keep the proceeds right here in Belmont. Belmont Light customers know they can count on us to be there when they need us because we've been their hometown electric utility since 1898.”
As part of the Public Power Week celebration, Belmont Light representatives will be at the October 6th Farmer’s Market and will be distributing energy saving information and materials to Belmont residents. Information about the Belmont Light electric vehicle program will also be available.
