Belmont To Lower Speed Limit In Populated Areas

The revised speed limit goes into effect Oct. 1.

BELMONT, MA – Belmont will lower the speed limit in highly populated neighborhoods from 30 mph to 25 mph at the end of the month. Police will begin to enforce the new speed limit starting Oct. 1.

This past spring, the Belmont Town Meeting voted to lower the speed limit in "thickly settled" areas. Over the past few months, all of the 30 mph signs have been replaced with 25 mph signs, police said.

Drivers should assume the speed limit is 25 mph unless otherwise posted.
