Belmont Police Warn About Marine Scam

BELMONT, MA — Belmont police are warning residents about a new scam. The scammer poses as a U.S. Marine Captain stationed in an embassy in another country, likely where the resident's family member lives.

The scammer tells the resident their relative was involved in a crash with prominent officials. The catch to the scam is the caller asks for money from the resident to "help their relative."

Police are reminding residents not to give or send any money. If residents receive the call they should hang up.
