Belmont Resident Ran 7 Marathons On 7 Continents in 7 Days

Belmont's Becca Pizzi won every race in the women's division of the World Marathon Challenge.

BELMONT, MA - A Belmont woman just accomplished the incredible feat of running seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.

Becca Pizzi completed her final 26.2-mile race Friday in Sydney, Australia, (it was already Saturday there) as part of the World Marathon Challenge, CBS Boston reported. She ran the marathon in 4 hours, 8 minutes and 51 seconds, winning the women’s division and becoming the first American woman to complete the challenge, according to CBS Boston.

Pizzi’s victory in Australia means she has won the women’s division of every single race in the marathon challenge, the Citizen-Times reported.

Participation in the World Marathon Challenge costs almost $40,000, but Pizzi helped cover some of the cost with sponsorships from Lyon-Waugh Auto Group, Dr. Cool and Ultima Replenisher, according to her Facebook page.

The race is in its second year and included 15 participants from six countries — four women and 11 men, the Wall Street Journal reported.
