Belmont Resident Retires Without Missing a Day of Work

The woman retired last month after working at Dunkin' Donuts in Belmont for 21 years.

A long-time Belmont resident hasn’t missed a single scheduled day of work in over two decades of working.

Mary Varsamis retired from working at Dunkin’ Donuts, 353 Trapelo Road, in early September after 21 years of service.

A ceremony was held at the Belmont store last week to celebrate Varsamis’ retirement and commitment to the company. David and Duke Carvalho, franchisees and fellow co-workers, honored Varsamis with a service award, gifts and flowers.

She has lived in Belmont most of her life after immigrating to the U.S. from Greece when she was a young girl.

Before she worked at Dunkin’ Donuts, Varsamis operated her own business, so she knows the importance of showing up to work and providing for her customers. “It didn’t matter what the weather was like, or if it was snowing - I was there for them when they needed their coffee,” she said.

Varsamis said she will miss the customers and her co-workers the most. “I love being around people and serving local guests,” she said.

After 21 years at Dunkin’ Donuts, her favorite order is an extra large black coffee and a bagel with butter.

Now that she’s retired, Varsamis plans to spend more time with her husband, family, friends and grandkids. “After some time, I would like to volunteer at a hospital to help people,” she said.
