Belmont Resident Turns 100

"Gino" Contini celebrated triple digits on June 11.

BELMONT, MA – Belmont resident Louis Gene "Gino" Contini celebrated his 100th birthday this month, according to Wicked Local. The centenarian rang in his 100th year with his family and friends – including his wife of 70 years, Ninna – at a party in Sudbury June 11.

Contini, an East Boston native, fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II, taking part in the invasion of Okinawa and occupation of Japan, his son told Wicked Local. He met Ninna in New York City ahead of his deployment to Japan in 1943.

The pair were married three years later and lived in New York and Florida before moving back to Massachusetts, eventually settling in Belmont in 1951. Contini worked in the liquor business until his retirement, according to Wicked Local.
