Belmont Votes to Leave Minuteman School District
At a special Town Meeting Wednesday night, members voted on the future of the town's membership in the vocational district.

BELMONT, MA – Belmont officially voted to leave the Minuteman school district at a special Town Meeting Wednesday night.
Town Meeting members voted 172-66 in favor of leaving the vocational district; a two-thirds vote was required for the resolution to pass.
The decision comes a month after Belmont voted against releasing the $145 million in borrowed funds necessary to build a new Minuteman High School.

Borrowing funds for the new Minuteman school was an unpopular prospect in Belmont; in May, Belmont voted against approving its portion of the debt for the school, forcing Tuesday's district-wide referendum.
Though Belmont voted against releasing the funds, a new school was ultimately approved in September.
