Belmont's Martone Named All-American

What began as a few parents wanting to establish lacrosse to the town a decade ago, the coaches and board of Belmont Youth Lacrosse were celebrating a milestone for the program.

Belmont High School senior and varsity lacrosse captain Nick Martone has been selected as one of 22 students named a 2010 High School All American.

Martone was one of the first players to join and work his way through the BYL.

BHS Varsity Lacrosse Coach Paul Graham was also honored as the 2010 Middlesex League Coach of the Year. 

The 2010 Massachusetts High School Boys All Americans were selected on Saturday, May 26, by the High School League representatives of the local chapter of US Lacrosse. 

The League representatives also select the Coach of the Year Award.

"We are thrilled by the recognition of Coach Graham and Nick because it honors both of their hard work and talent, as well as the growth of the sport of lacrosse in Belmont," read a BYL press release.

The BYL also wanted to congratulate the BHS Girls' Varsity Lacrosse team on a strong season.

The Boys Varsity team will continue their season into the playoffs with a game against Shawsheen Valley Tech at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, at Shawsheen Valley in Billerica.
