BHS Econ Team at National Championships: Give Their Video Your Vote!

Watch the finals of the National Economics Challenge live Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Economics team is in the Big Apple this weekend to prove that they are the best in the country.

The team, comprised of seniors John Lazenby and Robbie Gibson, and juniors Ben Goodman and Evan Green, is competing against three other teams from across the country in the National Economics Challenge championships, sponsored by the Council for Economic Education.

And you can support the Belmont High team by voting for their video – introducing themselves to the nation – on the Council's Facebook page. The team with the most votes will receive a $100 Amazon gift certificate for their school and a $25 iTunes gift card for each team member.

Belmont High is competing against teams from California, Texas, and Illinois in the competition’s top division – for students who are taking AP level courses and have taken several classes in the subject – named after the founding father of economics, Adam Smith.

On Saturday, the four teams will compete in two events. The first is a standard test compromised of microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics and current events. 

The second is a critical thinking round, where students will present an answer to a real world problem to a panel of economists. 

On Sunday at 3 p.m., the top two scoring teams will compete in a quiz bowl that will be broadcast from the Tisch WNET Studios in New York City. Tune into this live event by clicking here on Sunday.
