Belmont's Unemployment Drops Full Point in '11

Data from Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development shows slight decline in Dec.

Belmont saw a full percentage point drop in its unemployment rate in the past year while it showed a slight drop in the rate in December, according to numbers released this week.

The state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development released its local unemployment numbers and Belmont’s unemployment fell slightly, from 4.3 percent in November to 4.1 percent in December. Last December's rate was 5.1 percent.

  • Arlington’s rate fell a bit, from 4.3 percent in November to 4.1 percent last month. December 2010's rate was 5.5 percent.
  • Lexington saw its rate hold steady at 4.0 percent in November and December. Last year's rate was 5.2 percent.
  • Watertown's rate moved from 4.6 to 4.5 percent month to month. December 2010 found a rate of 6.0 percent.
