Estudiantes de Burbank, Bienvenidos a México!

Belmont fourth graders treated to a visit to Mexico thanks to Veronica Robles and the Foundation for Belmont Education.

On Tuesday, April 9, the fourth grade classes at the Burbank Elementary School experienced a little bit of Mexico through an musical performance by Veronica Robles, a musician, TV presenter and educator with a passion for celebrating and sharing Mexican culture.

Robles' visit was arranged by the school's PTA Enrichment Committee using a grant from the Foundation for Belmont Education to enhance the fourth grade social studies unit on Mexico.

Veronica presented the history of her country through music, dance and a wide array of costumes.  Donned in full attire, she demonstrated a traditional Aztec dance and provided several examples of how the Spanish influenced clothing, language and music in Mexico. The students learned new Spanish words and songs and they also learned to identify different regions of Mexico on the map.

Veronica taught a traditional Mexican dance as well. Students had the opportunity to participate wearing swinging skirts, vests or sombrero hats.  Those who refrained from dancing joined in with cheers and chicken calls!

Special thanks to the Foundation for Belmont Education for grant funding that made this event possible, and to Veronica Robles for her memorable presentation.
