The Folk Arts Center presents a workshop in traditional Armenian dance with Hasmik Harutyunyan of Yerevan, Armenia. Hasmik is an internationally renowned performer and instructor of Armenian songs and dances. She has performed in the Shoghaken Folk Ensemble and the Agunk Folk Song and Dance Ensemble, and was the founder and artistic director of the Hayrik Mouradian Children's Folk Song and Dance Ensemble. Inspired by the legacy of her ancestors in the Moush province of Historic Armenia, Hasmik's mission is to preserve Armenian folk songs and dances as a living tradition.
A potluck supper with an Armenian theme follows the class. After supper, FAC's monthly Saturday party begins, featuring international dancing with music by Goat Rodeo as well as Hasmik's workshop dances with recorded music.
