Courageous Court Shoot-a-thon

We are excited to introduce to you “Courageous Court” at the Daniel Butler School, the refurbished basketball court being restored in loving memory of Marc John “MJ” Firenze, Jr. MJ was a proud Butler LABBB student for five years, and the older brother of Ryan, who is now a 4th grader there. MJ passed away suddenly of epilepsy in January 2009 and his loss was felt deeply within the Butler community. Even though he suffered from the debilitating effects of regular seizures, his characteristic courage, determination, and optimism were never more evident than when he played basketball.  "Courageous Court" will allow MJ's memory to be an inspiration to others as it represents the hallmarks of the Butler community:  embracing challenges, celebrating diversity, and fostering cooperation.

During the next three weeks we are looking for student-volunteers to pick up a pledge form and help raise money for Courageous Court.  And we ask you to assist and encourage them in finding friends and family members to support them in the "Shoot-a-Thon". We have attached a pledge form to this email and additional ones can be picked up at the main office of Butler School.

Starting at 5:30 pm on Tuesday June 7, 2011 each student-volunteer will shoot 25 free-throws in the Butler Gymnasium.  We are asking for your support as these eager young volunteers are looking for sponsors. Prizes will be presented to top scorers and fundraisers.

In the coming days you may be asked by our student-volunteers to sponsor their efforts in this "Shoot-a-Thon". They will be asking that you donate money in the form of a pledge for each free-throw they make out of 25. You may also make a flat donation amount to our cause. We would welcome any support you could give in this fundraising project.

For more information on our fundraising project as well as a safe and convenient credit card payment option, you can find us at: www.mjfund.shootathon.com

If you decide to join our efforts today with a pledge or donation, we will follow-up with you after the "Shoot-a-Thon" event regarding our fundraising outcome and payment instructions for any pledge amounts that you have made.

Thank you in advance for your support. On behalf of Courageous Court, Butler School and our student-volunteers, we thank you!

Sincerely,

Courageous Court Committee Chairs

Marc and Libby Firenze
