Fashion Meets Film at an Evening of Tibetan Culture at Sara Campbell on June 25

Featuring highlights from the documentary "The Way Home: Tibetans in Exile," and Tibetan snacks and music presented by Belmont World Film.

Belmont World Film presents an evening of Tibetan culture on Thursday, June 25, at the Sara Campbell store in Wellesley (200 Linden Street) featuring highlights from the documentary “The Way Home: Tibetans in Exile” by Marilyn Pennell, as well as Tibetan snacks and music. The film tells the story of three generations of Tibetan women in exile in the US and their struggle to preserve their culture, family and faith far from their homeland.

Shot over two years in Washington, D.C., India (Dharamsala in the north and Bylakuppe in the south, Tibetan communities that formed after the Chinese takeover), and the Bay Area in California, the film is about courage, compassion and hope in the face of overwhelming odds. It also demonstrates how Tibetans honor and preserve their cultural heritage through the practice of singing, dancing and traditional Tibetan Opera.

Pennell, whose interest in Tibetan culture began during her experience traveling through China and Tibet as a result of being chosen as a Fulbright Hays fellow in the history and culture of China in 2006, will also discuss her experience producing the film as well as the last steps needed to complete it.
