Foundation for Belmont Education Receives $9,000 Innovative Teaching Grant

Belmont Savings Bank and the Belmont Savings Bank Foundation jointly donated $9,000 to the Foundation for Belmont Education (FBE).  These funds will specifically support the FBE’s Innovative Teaching Initiative and enable Belmont’s educators to utilize new teaching techniques as well as iPad technology.  The Innovative Teaching Initiative will improve student engagement and help develop 21st century skills such as creative problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, data gathering and analysis and technological competency.

On Tuesday, January 28th, a check presentation was held at the FBE’s Board of Directors meeting. Participants at the event included: Hal Tovin, Chief Operating Officer of Belmont Savings Bank, Jamie Shea, President of the Foundation for Belmont Education, Laurie Graham, School Committee Chairwoman, Janice Darias, Assistant Superintendent of Belmont Public Schools and Dr. Thomas Kingston, Interim Superintendent of Belmont Public Schools.

The $4,000 check from Belmont Savings Bank is a contribution made directly as a result of the many Belmont Education Reward Checking accounts opened at Belmont Savings in 2013.  For each new checking account, the FBE gets $50 and the account holder gets $50.
