ICYMI: Belmont Among America's Safest Cities in 2017
Neighborhood Scout recently ranked Newton as one of the safest cities in the state and the nation.

BELMONT, MA — Website Neighborhood Scout recently released its list of the 100 Safest Cities in America for 2017, and Belmont was among 21 Massachusetts communities to make the cut.
According to Neighborhood Scout's data, there are 0.31 violent crimes per 1,000 residents annually in Belmont, and 6.02 property crimes per 1,000 residents. Both figures are significantly lower than the violent and property crime rates nationally and statewide.
Neighborhood Scout reported that you have a 1 in 3,198 chance of falling victim to a violent crime in Belmont, and a 1 in 166 chance of becoming a victim of property crime.

Belmont was the fourth-safest city in Massachusetts, ranked 15th nationally behind Reading at No. 10, Lexington at No. 8 and Franklin at No. 4.
Neighborhood Scout's data ranks the 100 safest cities in America with 25,000 or more people. The rankings are based on the total number of property and violent crimes per 1,000 residents.
