Letter To The Editor: A Belmont Voter for Rogers

Disputing the notion that State Reps race is for the "Belmont" seat.

To the editor:

I have heard that some people are urging Democratic voters in Belmont to support a Belmont resident in the Democratic Primary for State Representative. The argument is that the seat is primarily a "Belmont seat" and that a Belmont resident would best serve the people of our town.

However, in previous years, Belmontians would have considered it incredibly shortsighted if Arlington or Cambridge residents had used that same logic as a reason not to vote for Will Brownsberger.

"Will is the best candidate and he works hard to represent the whole District", most would have said.

Well, the same principle still applies. As residents of the District, we owe it to ourselves to elect the best possible representative, regardless of where within the District that person resides.

I’m urging my fellow Belmontians to vote for the person who would best represent the entire District – Dave Rogers.

Dave has made tremendous efforts to reach out to all the residents of the District, including Belmont residents, asking about our concerns and demonstrating an admirable ability to listen to what we have to say. He has given a great deal of thought to the issues facing the District and is the only candidate who has developed substantive ideas on how to address the problems we face. Having worked in the private sector, Dave is more pragmatic than most candidates, which is much needed in the State House. He is also the candidate who is most likely to hold his ground against the Democratic leadership when he disagrees with them. That independence is also much needed on Beacon Hill.

In sum, Dave is the best candidate to represent Belmont’s interests at the State House.

Please join me in supporting Dave Rogers for State Rep. in the Democratic primary on Thursday, Sept. 6.
