Silver Maple Forest Action Day

Rally and Parade to Stand up for Silver Maples

Friends of
Alewife Reservation, Green Cambridge, Belmont Citizen Forum and other
local environmental organizations will hear short speeches from legislators followed by a parade and then statements from a range of speakers from Arlington,
Belmont, and Cambridge.   The family-friendly event will includes tall colorful puppets who will help raise awareness of the habitat loss, flooding, traffic, and other negative
effects that destroying the Silver Maple Forest on the site known as the Belmont Uplands will have on our future.

Rapid development and climate change are making floods more common and more damaging. Low-lying areas around Boston are threatened with
future flooding—including the area surrounding the Silver Maple Forest, anopen space where developers are proposing to build a 299-apartmentcomplex.  Alewife Station itself is only five feet above sea level, and also isat
risk.
