The Revolution, As Seen at the MFA

At 7:30 PM Wednesday April 30 in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library,
take a close look at some of the history paintings, portraits, prints
and decorative arts from the time of the Revolution in the MFA's
magnificent collection of American art – including John Trumbull's The
Death of General Warren at the Battle of Bunker's Hill, June 17, 1775
©Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Nicole Claris, Manager of School Programs,
will be our guide.

You've heard and read about John Hancock, Sam Adams, Joseph Warren
and Paul Revere. But what did these Patriot leaders look like? Claris
will help you explore the ways these important figures, and the
tumultuous times in which they lived, were portrayed by the artists of
their day. For example, John Singleton Copley's iconic portrait Paul
Revere © Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is shown below. Nicole Claris
currently supervises and trains the 120 actively touring Gallery
Instructors at the MFA. She also leads regular gallery talks for adult
visitors. The focus of her art historical research is on how
nineteenth-century American paintings depict both national and gender
identity.
