Ukrainian Easter Egg Decoration Demonstration at Belmont's Homer House
Crafters, families, and scouts areinvited to view the ancient art of
Ukrainian Easter egg decoration on Saturday, April 12, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. The Belmont Woman’s Club is the
sponsor of this program at the 1853 Homer House, 661 Pleasant Street, Belmont.
Erika Cherko-Soykan will
demonstrate the stunning Ukrainian method of decorating Easter eggs, called pysanky, using batik wax-resist methods
to make folk designs. Ms.
Cherko-Soykan will also discuss the rich cultural context of this art. Pre-made pysanky will be available for
sale at the event. This is not a workshop, but
attendees will leave with directions to get them started on their own. Admission is $5 adult or child, $10 for
families. No reservations are
necessary. Proceeds benefit
the maintenance of the historic Homer House, a site associated with American
artist Winslow Homer (1836-1910).
