UPDATE: The Oscar Contest Has A Winner ... Finally

It wasn't for acting, writing, directing or music but documenting our world.

It took nearly six days for someone to answer correctly the "Belmont's Connection To Oscar" contest – much longer than I thought – but we do have a winner.

Courtney Chapman got it right by knowing that Belmont residents Margaret Lazarus and Renner Wunderlich won the Oscar for best short documentary in 1993 (awarded in 1994) for "Defending Our Lives."

And we have the picture and the acceptance speeches to prove it. (A bit of trivia: the presenters were Christian Slater and Nicole Kidman.)

Lazarus and Wunderlich's documentary focuses on four women who were imprisoned for killing the men who were physically beating them.

"These women were forced to defend their lives, and this documentary captures the cruel irony of putting them behind bars once they have finally escaped their abusers. They have chosen to share their stories, hoping to inspire creative strategies for ending this violence," according to the film's website.

Courtney wins a lunch for two at Stone Hearth Pizza in Belmont Center for being so cinema wise.
