VIDEO/IMAGE GALLERY: Belmont Wrestlers Grab First Win at Melrose

Belmont High School varsity wrestling team scored its first win Wednesday over Melrose, 39-35.

The  wrestling team grabbed its first win of the season Wednesday, Dec. 22, 39-35, over the Red Raiders at Melrose High School.

Belmont's heavyweight Jonathan Comeau started the night with a pin and Belmont got wins from Roni Baghdady (103 pounds), Sami Baghdady (125), Eamon Casey (135), Ivan Lozando (140), Julian Lockwood (160) and Lucas Fischer (171).  

Marauders Head Coach Jon Hartunian said the turning point in the meet was when Casey was forced to take a timeout with a nosebleed, but recovered to get a pin.

"His nose was bleeding like crazy, he threw the mask on, wrapped his nose up and got a pin, where we didn't know what to expect after that," Hartunian said. "That was the turning point right there."

Lockwood and Lucas Fischer both got pins to put Belmont ahead by 12 points with two matches left, and Krickorian avoided a pin to clinch the win.

"I told Julian and Lucas I needed six points from both of them and they both got six to put us up by 12," Hartunian said. "It was up to Zack and Billy not to get pinned and both of them did a nice job."
