1 Hospitalized In 2nd Multi-Alarm Beverly Fire In 8 Days

The basement fire broke out early Monday morning in an early 1900s home on Sturtevant Street.

BEVERLY, MA — One person was hospitalized with burn wounds as Beverly fire crews battled the second multi-alarm fire in the city in a little more than a week, early on Monday morning.

Beverly fire said crews responded to the fire before 5 a.m. and encountered heavy smoke coming from the Sturtevant Street home.

"Crews found the fire in the basement, but due to the balloon frame construction of the early 1900's home, fire had already traveled through wall and floor voids to upper levels," Beverly fire said.

Beverly struck three alarms with several mutual aid companies rushing to the scene to assist.

Beverly fire said the blaze was under control by around 7 a.m. with crews remaining on the scene checking for hot spots until later in the morning.

The person injured had attempted to put out the fire in the home, Beverly fire said.

The fire came eight days after a car fire spread to a building on Hale Park Avenue, displacing four and killing the family dog.

Assistance was provided on scene by Salem, Wenham, Hamilton, Middleton, Manchester, Marblehead, Topsfield and Rehad 5.

Swampscott, Lynnfield and Peabody covered Beverly stations during the incident.
