BEVERLY, MA — The former boyfriend of a maid who works at the Beverly mansion that was targeted in a violent home invasion late last month was arraigned in Salem District Court on Tuesday on kidnapping and home invasion charges, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office.
Court documents accused Emajae Brown, 25, of Lynn, of being one of two masked men who broke into the home during the overnight hours of March 28. Police said he held the owners and a maid at gunpoint and stole items, along with a vehicle, from the secluded oceanfront home.
Beverly police responded to a 911 call about six hours after the home invasion and found the victims in the home.
Brown was charged with home invasion, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over age 60, kidnapping, intimidation of a witness, armed assault in a dwelling, larceny over $1,200, breaking and entering in a building in the nighttime, larceny of a motor vehicle, and armed burglary related to a March incident in Beverly.
Brown was held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court on April 21 for a dangerousness hearing.
Court documents said Brown, who previously dated another maid at the house who was not the one detained in the invasion, was found with $300,000 in his car and items consistent with those reported stolen from the home.
Prosecutors said the stolen Porsche was tracked to Lynn. They said he was also wanted on domestic violence charges at the Encore Boston Harbor involving his former girlfriend.
Prosecutors did not say whether the other masked intruder in the case had been identified or arrested.
