BEVERLY, MA — The municipal election in Beverly is still more than six months away, but several potential candidates have already taken out nomination papers from the City Clerk's office. Nomination papers have been available since April 1 and need to be returned to the City Clerk by August 6. The city's preliminary election is on Sept. 24 and the general election is on Nov. 5.

No candidate has withdrawn nomination papers to run for mayor, but Mayor Mike Cahill has said he plans to run for reelection. Ward 3 City Councillor James Latter has said he will not run for another term. As a result, four candidates have already withdrawn nomination papers to run for his seat.

[Note: An earlier version of this story was based on an outdated document that had been sent to Patch by the City Clerk. The story has been updated to reflect that Beverly School Committee president Kristin Silverstein has withdrawn nomination papers to run for Ward 3 City Councilor.]
