Beverly Considers Options For Now-Vacant Middle School
The city wants to preserve the building, which Mayor Mike Cahill called "historic."

BEVERLY, MA -- Beverly residents and city officials suggested turning the old Briscoe Middle School building into housing, live/work space for artists or graduate housing for area colleges at a recent community forum. The meeting was to discuss the future of the building, which will be replaced by a newly-constructed middle school in September.
According to Wicked Local Beverly, which first reported this story, Mayor Mike Cahill said the goal is to at least preserve the facade of the building. "With affordable housing tax credits and low-income housing tax credits, there seems to be a real shot at saving the building," Cahill said. "That could put enough money into a financing package to actually rehab it for future use."
