Beverly Develops Mattress Recycling Plan Amid MA's New Landfill Ban
Starting Nov. 1, mattresses and box springs needed to be recycled in the state and could no longer be collected as bulk landfill items.

BEVERLY, MA — Beverly has developed a new mattress and box spring recycling plan in accordance with the state law that took effect on Nov. 1 requiring the recycling of the items.
Residents are no longer allowed to bring their mattresses and box springs for landfill disposal or leave them out for regular curbside bulk item removal.
The city has contracted with Tough Stuff Recycling to allow residents multiple options for mattress recycling.

Those replacing their mattresses and box springs can have the mattress company remove the old mattress during delivery, mattresses in good condition can be donated, they can be dropped off at a recycling facility or a curbside pick-up can be scheduled through Tough Stuff Recycling.
The fee for curbside pickup is $30 per item — mattresses and box springs are billed separately — and they must be clean and dry upon pickup as well as placed in a bag that can be obtained free of charge at City Hall.
