Beverly Man is the New Commissioner at the Divison of Insurance

The Division of Insurance's primary mission is to monitor the solvency of its licensees.

Daniel R. Judson, of Beverly, is the new Commissioner of Insurance, in the state Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulations.

Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development made the announcement on Monday.

Judson is a lawyer with over 25 years of experience in insurance in both the public and private sectors. He spent 15 years as an insurance regulator at the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, and spent the last 12 years as a private attorney with a broad insurance practice, as compliance manager of a Massachusetts insurance company. He was president of the high risk pool for auto insurance in Massachusetts for the past three years.

“As the Commissioner of Insurance, Daniel Judson brings a wealth of insurance experience from the public and private sector, and is a great addition to the team at Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation,” said Secretary Jay Ash in a news release.

The Division of Insurance’s primary mission is to monitor the solvency of its licensees in order to promote a healthy, responsive and willing marketplace for consumers who purchase insurance products. DOI is part of the U.S. insurance regulatory framework, which is a highly coordinated state-based system designed to protect policyholders and to serve the greater public interest through the effective regulation of the U.S. insurance marketplace.
