Beverly YMCA Expands, New Education Center To Open Soon

BEVERLY, MA — The Beverly YMCA has a Christmas gift for the community. The renovation is wrapping up, the yoga studio is open and the new building is getting ready to open to the public, the Y announced today.

"We are so happy to see our member's Y experience improve with our gorgeous new building," said Judith Cronin, the executive director of the Y.

The expansion project comes on the heels of a MassDevelopment issued $14.8 million tax-exempt bond for the YMCA of the North Shore. The YMCA used the bond proceeds to renovate and build an addition onto the Greater Beverly YMCA to increase available program space.

The organization used the money to build and equip a 14,000-square-foot educational center at the Beverly location to accommodate children’s classrooms, program space, and administrative offices, and to refinance existing debt. People’s United Bank purchased the bond.

The YMCA of the North Shore goes back to in 1858, when it was first established as the Salem YMCA and was made up of seven full-service facilities and provides services to more than 45,000 members across 24 communities.

MassDevelopment, the state’s finance and development agency, works with businesses, nonprofits, financial institutions, and communities to stimulate economic growth across the Commonwealth. During FY2016, MassDevelopment financed or managed 352 projects generating investment of more than $4 billion in the Massachusetts economy. These projects are projected to create about 8,200 jobs and build or rehabilitate about 4,200 residential units.

Below is the plan for the coming weeks for Beverly's YMCA:

• The Yoga Studio is open.
• New Fitness Equipment is coming. During the week of December 18th through Friday, December 22nd there will be limited equipment as we prepare for the new equipment's arrival.
• Group Exercise classes will continue to run.
• December 29, the Y will begin occupying the New Education Center.
